Case 9 and 10
These cases are still under preparation and they are supposed to display the mammal fossils found near Bucine. Currently, they contain a mandibula with two molars of a young Paleoloxodon antiquus (elephant), examined in the second case description, some fragments of a Bos primigenius (a sort of proto-cattle), a Dicerorhinus hemitoechus (rhinocerus) and a Cervus elaphus (deer). In the 10th case there are some very interesting tibia and phemor fragments of a crane-like bird (craneshape); more precisely, these are two moulds that replace the originals which are considered of primary importance and, consequently, are conserved at the Paleontological and Geological Museum of Florence University. All the above-mentioned fossils were found nearby and date back to the river phase.
(third deposition phase) In case 10 there is also a mould of a sabre tooth tiger’ skull found in the sediments of the second lake phase. Consiquently, this find is thought to date from the Inferior Pleistocene; the original one is displayed at Florence Museum.
Between the 10th and the 11th case there is a board on the scale of one to twenty-five thousand (The Geographic Institute of the Army – I.G.M.) of Bucine territory where we can find, marked with different colours, the points that correspond to the findings of the various fossils displayed in the Museum.
